Eighteen golf holes on 135 acres of village land will go on the auction block in five parcels or as a lot on Saturday as the owner of Deer Lake Golf Course liquidates land adjacent to Geneva State Park.
The auction, hosted by Kiko Auctions, will begin at 11 a.m. at the course, at 6300 Lake Road W., across from Breakwater Beach.
Geneva-on-the-Lake Councilman Don Woodward said the property, which was originally zoned as Geneva Township land, was annexed into the village to make it “more saleable.”
“The bank that owned the land came to council and asked us to annex the small part that was not in the village, the part that was in the township, so the total parcel would be all in the village,” he said. “They thought that having only one government entity to deal with would make it more saleable.”
Woodward said the Geneva Township trustees allowed the annexation.
Village Administrator Jim Hockaday said the property is dual zoned as residential/rural and residential business.
The auction includes 135 acres of land with a large banquet hall/club house that holds restrooms and a large dining or party area. The golf course has a gravel parking lot, several ponds, storage buildings and has free gas on the land.
The tree land was recently harvested for lumber, Woodward said.
The auction description lists open and wooded areas on the land, which joins Geneva State Park and campgrounds and is close to the marina.
The property is divided into five parcels, which can be sold separately or together, whichever brings the most money.
