Arrest warrant requested for Ashtabula meth lab suspect

JEFFERSON — The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office has requested an arrest warrant for an Ashtabula man after detectives discovered a meth lab at his residence.

Detectives have been investigating the man for several months after receiving a number of reports regarding his involvement in manufacturing methamphetamine at several locations in Ashtabula and other parts of the county, according to reports.

Reports were also made regarding the suspect allegedly manufacturing meth while his children, ages 11 and 4, were present in the home, according to reports.

The suspect is currently under indictment for aggravated arson as well as a number of drug charges, according to court records.

ACSO detectives and Ashtabula Police Department officials served a search warrant at the suspect’s Eleanor Drive address Monday. The suspect was not located at the residence at the time the warrant was served, according to reports.

When detectives entered the residence there was a chemical odor coming from the garage. Several garbage bags were observed throughout the house as well as trash strewn about, according to reports. The house was reportedly in a state of disarray and not clean or safe for children to be living or visiting, detectives said in the report.

Det. Bryan Rose stated in his report that there were no sheets on the children’s beds and the room was in disarray.

Detectives recovered a number of drug-related items commonly used in the manufacture of meth during the search.

The suspect has custody of his two children; however, they are reportedly living with a grandparent. Detectives contacted the grandparent and instructed them to retrieve the children’s belongings from the residence as it was not safe for them to return there. Children Services was also notified of the situation.

The suspect could charges of endangering children as well as multiple drug charges.
