Ashtabula’s holiday festivities kick off Nov. 22

ASHTABULA — Get into the holiday spirit with Ashtabula’s annual  holiday celebration and Christmas parade Nov. 22.

This evening event kicks off the holiday season in Ashtabula. Enjoy the 4th Annual Lighting of the Trees at 5:30 p.m. in Lance Cpl. Kevin M. Cornelius Memorial Park and enjoy entertainment in the park until the parade begins at 7 p.m. on Main Avenue.

Participants will line up beginning at 6 p.m. at West 48th Street and Park Avenue. The parade will head north on Main Avenue, turn left on 42nd Street, left on Park Avenue and end at the Municipal Building.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the three best floats: first prize, $150; second prize, $75 and third place, $50.

Forms are available at the Ashtabula Area Chamber of Commerce, 4536 Main Ave., Ashtabula.

The parade will include fire trucks, police cars, baton twirlers, cheerleaders, dancers, beauty queens, holiday floats, Lakeside High School Marching Band and Santa Claus.

Volunteers are needed to help with parade line-up and Cornelius Park activities.

For businesses interested in participating in the tree decorating contest, a registration form can be accessed online at the Ashtabula Downtown Development Association website.

Volunteers are needed at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 to help stake up trees and decorate Cornelius Park.
