TAG arrests two in Geneva drug bust

GENEVA — A Geneva man was arrested Thursday afternoon after a year-long investigation into possible drug trafficking at his residence.

The suspect, who was on probation for prior conviction, was arrested on charges of violation of the probation terms during a parole search by Adult Probation officials; however, additional charges will be forthcoming pending the completion of the investigation, said Lt. Greg Leonhard, of the TAG Law Enforcement Task Force.

The residence, at 32 Elm St., west apartment, has been under investigation by TAG, the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department, Ohio Bureau of Investigation and Identification and the Geneva Police Department for about one year, Leonhard said.

After receiving a number of complaints of possible heroin and methamphetamine trafficking out of the residence, local agencies set up surveillance of the property and were able to determine drug trafficking was occurring. The information was forwarded to Adult Probation, which led to the suspect’s arrest Thursday, Leonhard said.

After obtaining a search warrant through Western County Court, investigators conducted a search of the residence and seized a host of stolen property, U.S. currency, suspected counterfeit money, drug paraphernalia and drug packaging materials, Leonhard said.

“We filled a whole pick-up truck with property suspected to be stolen,” he said. “We seized a lot of stuff.”

Another male was also arrested on a felony warrant through Lake County. Two other individuals were also in the residence, one from Youngstown and one from Ashtabula, but they were released, he said.

“We had no reason to hold them,” Leonhard said.
