North Kingsville thrift store aids shoppers and owner

NORTH KINGSVILLE — A foray into retail arranged by a loving relative may have helped save the life of Edith Lambert.

Lambert and her daughter-in-law, Virginia Lambert, operate Yes It’s Thrifty, 2736 E. Main St. (Route 20) in North Kingsville. The store sells a wide variety of pre-owned goods at very attractive prices.

The store opened its doors in June, but the planning that preceded it gave Edith a new lease on life. Her involvement in the business prompted her to lose a lot of weight, which in turn lowered her blood pressure, helped her ditch some diabetes medication and provide extra energy.

That’s just what Virginia had in mind.

“We wanted to give mom something to do,” she said. “I love it and she loves it. People she has known for years are coming in.”

That’s a real perk for the sociable Edith. “I love people and I like to talk,” she said, laughing.

For sale in the store is a little bit of everything, from furniture and clothing to toys and porcelain dolls. Prices are extremely low, in part to generate repeat business, Virginia said.

“If you sell things cheap, people will return,” she said.

The women are pleased with the response to the store, which has attracted customers from as far away as New York and Pennsylvania. And Edith is simply crazy about the business partner who’s keeping her healthy.

“She’s the best daughter-in-law you could have and also my best friend,” she said, smiling.

Yes It’s Thrifty is open Tuesday through Friday (11 a.m.-6 p.m.), Saturday (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.-2 p.m.)
