Man sought by deputies found, arrested in W.Va.

PAINESVILLE — An Orwell man wanted by the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Thursday in a remote part of West Virginia, according to the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, a division of the U.S. Marshal’s Office.

Daniel Light, 35, had been sought by deputies on multiple warrants related to the manufacture and possession of methamphetamine as well as illegal possession of firearms, since November 2012, according to a statement.

Light was tracked to a construction site in a mountain area near Milton, W.Va., by members of the CUFFED Fugitive Task Force. As the officers approached, they were spotted by Light, who ran into the woods. A perimeter was established and Light was flushed out several hours later with the help of the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office and a canine unit, according to the statement.

Light is being held in a local jail until an extradition hearing clears his return to Ohio. “This should send a message to those on the run that it doesn’t matter how far they go or to what extent they try to hide, they will be found,” U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott said in a statement.

The NOVFTF is comprised of law enforcement personnel from many northeast Ohio agencies, including the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office and the Ashtabula, Conneaut and North Kingsville police departments.
