Conneaut Township Park seeks new superintendent

CONNEAUT — Members of the Conneaut Township Park’s Board of Commissioners are hanging a “help wanted” sign.

David Dickson, superintendent at the lakefront park for more than 20 years, is stepping down effective Oct. 16, said Gary Coxon, board president. The search to find Dickson’s replacement is under way, he said.

“The board expresses its appreciation of Mr. Dickson’s service...and extends a big thank-you to him for his dedicated work and sacrifices for the park,” Coxon said in a statement.

Infinity Resources Inc., has been hired to help find a new superintendent, Coxon said. People interested in the job should contact Infinity Resources, 225 Broad St., Conneaut, he said.

On Tuesday, Coxon said the board will hire the best possible person for the job, regardless of residency. “We would love to find a local person, but we will do whatever is best for the park,” he said.

Dickson has been on the job for 23 years, he said Tuesday.

“My wife retired in the past year and we want to get together with the children,” he said. “We want to spend some time with them.”

The park board doesn’t anticipate finding Dickson’s successor before his departure date, Coxon said. “I don’t think it’s a possibility,” he said.

However, the maintenance crew can handle the load as the park buttons up for the winter, Coxon said.

“We have a strong staff that’s very knowledgeable,” he said. “With a little luck we’ll get through the end of the year. The toughest part of the season is behind us. Now we’re cleaning up, raking leaves and preparing to close.”

The new superintendent will be responsible for maintaining nearly 60 acres of park, which includes one of the largest beaches along Ohio’s Lake Erie shore. The beach, nearly 1,000 feet wide in some spots, stretches almost a half-mile in length.

Dickson said he appreciated the opportunity to work for a public that enjoys the park.

“I’d like to thank the people of Conneaut,” he said. “I really enjoyed it.”
