ERIE — An Ashtabula Township man charged Monday with sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Erie earlier this month has been transported back to Erie after police apprehended him in Ashtabula County.

David J. Barksdale, 33, was wanted on felony charges, including statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, promoting prostitution of a minor and interfering with the custody of children, according to Erie police.

Erie police said Barksdale took a 14-year-old girl to an East 11th Street residence on July 8 and sexually assaulted her.

Barksdale was taken without incident Monday afternoon at 6202 Jefferson Road, Ashtabula Township, said Det. Greg Leonhard of the TAG Law Enforcement Task Force.

Police also recovered two guns — one found to be stolen — a small amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia and $1,000 cash from the house, Leonhard said.

Once in Erie, Barksdale appeared before Erie 5th Ward District Judge Joseph Lefaiver.

He is being held on a $50,000 bond in the Erie County Prison.
