Windsor Community Market set for July 27

WINDSOR TOWNSHIP — The Windsor Community Market is in full swing with its next date quickly approaching.

The market will be open July 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Windsor Community Center on Route 322 next to the Windsor Fire Department.

Sponsored by the Windsor United Methodist Church, the event has served as a way to boost the local economy.

“We looked around at the local economy and decided we needed a way to encourage people to earn money,” said Pat Fozo, one of the event coordinators.

The market features Amish breads, pies, donuts, cookies and other baked goods as well as a variety of other vendors.

“We have had a lot of support from the Amish community,” she said.

The market hosts vendors both inside the community center as well as outside, she said. Indoor vendors include many home-based businesses such as Tastefully Simple, Scentsy and Miche, among others. Outdoors, shoppers will find locally grown produce, flowers, local honey, homemade soaps and lotions, quilts, jewelry and crafts combined with new and used items, antiques, crafts and toys, Fozo said.

Children can play games for a quarter or receive free tattoos. Food choices include breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs and ice cream, she said.

“We are pleased that a lot of nonprofits are using the market as a fundraiser,” Fozo said.

August will be Vendor Appreciation Month. Any vendors that have participated in the market in the past will get a discount on their registration fee. Regular vendors will get a 50 percent discount and nonprofit vendors will get free registration.

Fozo said she is hoping this will encourage people to participate this month so they will be eligible for the discount next month.

Tom Byler, who markets his organic produce grown on his Cox Road farm, sees the market as an excellent opportunity to build his business and meet new customers. This is his first year as a vendor and he sells the bulk of his produce through an organic co-op in Geauga County and locally at the grocery store in Orwell. Byler picked 300 pounds of green beans last week and is happy to report that he will have plenty more in time for the market on July 27. He will also have peppers, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes.

Anyone interested in becoming a vendor at the market can contact Fozo at 440-969-8530 or send an e-mail to windsorcommunitymarket@gmail.com.

The last market of the season will be held Aug. 24. July registration is open for indoor tables at $20. Additional tables are $10 if space is available. Outdoor spaces rent for $10 and include space to park one vehicle. Nonprofit organizations will be charged 50 percent as the church would like to encourage and support fundraising and outreach efforts, Fozo said.

Vendors wishing to have an indoor space need to register prior to the event. Outdoor vendors do not need to pre-register and can pay the day of the show, she said.
