Jefferson Local School District Treasurer Bonnie Brockway plans to resign her position effective Feb. 1, 2013.
The board of education accepted Brockway’s resignation by a unanimous vote during a special meeting held Friday morning.
In a statement that she read to the board prior to the vote, Brockway said the decision was “very difficult” but that she wants to spend more time with her family and friends. She said she appreciated the opportunity to be a part of the district’s administrative team and takes great pride in the schools.
Brockway said she planned to continue to be involved as a resource, community member and grandparent.
Board members expressed their appreciation to Brockway, who was hired two years ago.
“We are losing a phenomenal treasurer and just a really good person, too,” said Board President Patricia Hoyson.
Hoyson said she can understand Brockway’s desire to spend more time with her grandchildren because they grow so fast.
“Because of your work ethic, you are here for hours and hours,” Hoyson said.
“We will miss you more than you know,” Member Ron Watson said.
“You could not have picked a more professional treasurer,” said Superinten-dent Doug Hladek. “In the last two years she put in an enormous amount of hours. She’s been an inspiration to me.”
