Nephews beat uncle, another man during Saybrook robbery

JEFFERSON —  Charges are pending against two young adults who reportedly assaulted their uncle and another man during a robbery Wednesday night at a Saybrook Township home, sheriff deputies report.

One of the victims, a 25-year-old Ashtabula man, reportedly suffered serious facial injuries, including broken bones, during the attack, deputies said.

Deputies were contacted by UH Geneva Medical Center at 9:20 p.m.  about a man who arrived seeking treatment for assault-type injuries. Deputies eventually learned the attack took place earlier in the evening at a North Bend Road address, deputies said.

Three men — including two Saybrook brothers, ages 21 and 20 — entered the house, and the brothers demanded property they said was owned by their late father. The uncle refused, saying he was under strict orders not to hand over the items, deputies said. The uncle was attacked, along with the 25-year-old who was held on the ground and struck repeatedly, the older man told deputies.

The brothers grabbed a video game console, a tablet device and an assortment of coats and then left, reports show.

Deputies located the men a short time later at an Ashtabula house. A 20-year-old man who came to the door and initially told deputies no one else was home faces charges of obstruction of justice.
