Ashtabula pair injured in Perry crash

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Two people from Ashtabula were involved in a crash in Perry Township Thursday, the Lake County Sheriff's Office reports.

The accident resulted in injuries, several hours of a power outage, and Route 20 to be closed for about three hours.

According to Lt. Michael Reed, about at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, Lake County Sheriff's deputies along with Perry Fire Department responded to a one-vehicle injury accident in the area of 3056 North Ridge Road.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that a 1999 Cadillac driven by Mark Lambert, 22, of Ashtabula, had sheared a utility pole and was sitting 60-feet past a pole in the yard of 3056 North Ridge Road.

According to the deputy's reports, Lambert had been traveling eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway on the south side.

Lambert and a female passenger, Trisha Thompson, 28, of Ashtabula, sustained visible and non-visible non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff's office reports.

Thompson was transported from the scene by Perry fire to Madison Medical Campus where she was then flown to Metro Health Medical Center, Cleveland. Lambert was  trapped in the vehicle and after 45 minutes, was extricated via mechanical means. He was transported to Madison Medical Campus, and then also flown to Metro Health Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation. However, the sheriff's office investigation, as well as witness statements, indicates speed and reckless operation played a part in the crash.
