A Windsor Township woman says she was defending herself from a beating when her boyfriend was stabbed in the abdomen with a butcher knife late last week, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, a 44-year-old Windsor man, was treated at the scene and then transported to UH Geauga Medical Center, deputies said. His condition was not immediately available Monday.
Deputies found the 33-year-old woman, who fled the scene, the following day at St. Joseph Health Center in Andover, where she was seeking treatment for an elbow injury. She told deputies the man beat her and the stabbing occurred while she was defending herself, deputies said.
Around 1 p.m. Friday, deputies were dispatched to a Noble Road apartment in response to a 911 emergency call. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim being treated by emergency medical personnel. A large amount of blood was found throughout the apartment, deputies said.
While the victim was unable to provide much information because of his condition, deputies learned the man was stabbed during an argument that became violent. A neighbor told deputies she heard the victim screaming for someone to call 911. The woman left in a blue Ford van, deputies said.
One day later, deputies learned the suspect was seeking treatment at St. Joseph. The woman told deputies she was arguing with the man when he began to punch her in the head, and then struck her with a microphone stand. She grabbed a knife, and during the fight the man “fell” on the blade, the woman told deputies.
A doctor at the medical center told deputies the woman suffered a fractured elbow.
