Hundreds of princesses party at the Longest Day of Play Princess Ball

JEFFERSON — Anna Mae Cameron is not afraid to overdo the glitter.

Anna Mae’s dress sparkled, her hair shimmered, her shoes shined and her lipstick glimmered at the annual Princess Ball on Saturday, where princesses of all ages indulged in cake and partied like royalty at the Expo building at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds.

The event, held by Ashtabula County Children Services as a fundraiser for the Longest Day of Play and Family A-Fair community day, brought the princess out in most of the little girls.

“I love Sleeping Beauty,” Anna Mae, 5, said. “She is just so beautiful.”

Samantha Burnett dressed as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. She was just one of several teenage princesses who volunteered to dress up and sign autograph books for the younger girls.

Sami Bruce, 7, was most excited to meet Rapunzel.

“I have the doll and the movie at home,” Bruce said. “She is my favorite.”

Caydence Deaton, 3, of Madison wasn’t shy about her face-to-face time with Cinderella.

“I gave her a big hug!” she said.

Mom Megan Deaton said she was excited to bring all the little girls in her life to meet the princesses.

“We made it a big family day,” she said. “My niece is here, so they are having fun together and making some great memories. This is a really fantastic idea.”

Cinderella actress Randi McCallister signed autographs until her hand was sore. Then she danced with the little girls until her feet hurt.

Morgan French, 6, of Kingsville said she is going to live her life like a fairy tale.

“Cinderella is definitely my favorite princess. I know, because I saw the movie a lot of times,” she said. “My favorite part is at the end when she gets to marry the prince. I am going to marry a prince someday.”

RJ Cotton, 3, of Jefferson was one of the few boys to attend the glitter fest. He came prepared with a snack and a box of toy cars and trucks.

“He wanted to come,” mom Jessica Cotton said. “He said he wanted to go because his sister was going, and he seems happy as long as he has his cars.”

Ashtabula County Children Services community service coordinator Kathryn Whittington said attendance was more than anticipated.

Whittington had hoped to raise nearly $5,000 for the Longest Day of Play, which is a free day of family fun open to all residents of Ashtabula County.

“This exceeded all expectations,” she said. “The little girls are so excited to meet their princesses. Everyone is happy.”

Ashtabula County Children Services would like to thank sponsors Chromaflo, the Lunch Box, JP and Peggy Ducro, the Ashtabula City Health Department, Peggy Carlo and Walmart. Discounted services and prizes were provided by Donna Jones, Katie Lane, DJ Jay Goudy and JD’s Pizza of Ashtabula.
