Conneaut man killed in Pa. I-90 crash

Officials in Pennsylvania are continuing their investigation into a one-vehicle crash that killed a Conneaut man over the weekend, according to reports.

James C. Pistole, 55, died in a crash that occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 90 near mile marker 7, according to authorities and the Erie Times-News website. Pistole died from multiple blunt trauma suffered in the crash, Dennis Suscheck, Erie County, Pa., deputy coroner, said Monday. Toxicology tests will be performed, a standard procedure in crashes resulting in death, Suscheck said. Results could be known next month, he said.

Pistole was driving a pickup truck westbound on I-90 when the vehicle “went off the road for unknown reasons,” Suscheck said. The crash occurred a short distance east of Route 215, according to reports.

The truck struck an exit sign and rolled onto its roof, partially ejecting Pistole, Pennsylvania State Police troopers told the newspaper. Pistole, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports.

Pistole was the only occupant, Suscheck said.

On Monday, state police at the Girard, Pa., barracks — which is investigating the crash — said additional information was not immediately available.
