New facility in Ashtabula Plaza offers digital X-rays, ultrasounds

ASHTABULA — People needed an X-ray need not look far, thanks to University Hospitals’ new, state-of-the-art imaging facility at UH Ashtabula Health Center, 2131 Lake Ave., in the Ashtabula Plaza.

The outpatient radiology resource is the third University Hospitals location in Ashtabula County to offer digital X-ray and ultrasound, joining UH Conneaut Medical Center and UH Geneva Medical Center.

Area residents now a convenient, centrally located option when they need a physician-ordered diagnostic X-ray or ultrasound.

“For the first time we’re performing all digital X-ray procedures including chest, abdominal and upper and lower extremity, as well as vascular and abdominal ultrasounds at UH Ashtabula Health Center,” said Krissie Stich, BS, RT(R), manager, diagnostic imaging and Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, UH Geneva Medical Center. “We offer same-day appointments there and at all of our UH outpatient imaging facilities, but patients can also walk in at their convenience any weekday because, typically, no insurance precertification is necessary with X-rays and ultrasounds.”

Patients can also go to UH Conneaut or Geneva Medical Center to access a complete array of digital imaging services.

“We welcome walk-ins and same-day appointments for all of our radiology capabilities at both community hospitals,” said Jo Anne Surbella, RN, MBA, Director, Ambulatory Services at UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers. “Those capabilities also include MRI, CT, nuclear imaging and digital mammography.”

The new X-ray and Ultrasound services at UH Ashtabula Health Center are equal to those at both full-service UH hospitals.

“Digital imaging means a faster, more comfortable procedure experience,” Stich said. “A patient is usually finished and on their way in less than ten minutes. Digital technology also means more detailed images and faster results, in most cases within 12 to 24 hours.”

The digital images are stored in University Hospitals’ Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), so that any of a patient’s UH physicians can see them immediately once the images have been completed. Patients may also stop by UH Ashtabula Health Center to pick up a copy of their report or images on CD-R if needed for additional follow-up.

The new UH Ashtabula Health Center imaging facility in Ashtabula Plaza is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Patients who would like to schedule a same-day appointment, or confirm that a physician-ordered imaging procedure requires insurance precertification, should call  855-884-1858.
