Veterans clinic to be built in Ashtabula this spring

ASHTABULA — Spring will bring a new project to the City of Ashtabula and local veterans.

Professional Development Associates Inc., of Erie, will begin construction on a community-based outpatient clinic to serve the Veterans Administration at the corner of West 19th Street and Lambros Lane.

The $1 million building will be a tremendous addition to the community, said Luciana Ratermann, the city’s director of planning and community development.

“This is an excellent example of private/public partnering,” she said. “We worked closely with Professional Development Association as they considered sites, guided them through our local development process, and were excited to support their private initiative as a private tax-paying entity.”

Tom Kennedy, president of Professional Development Services, Inc., said he hopes he will have an opportunity to do other things in Ashtabula.

“We have a relationship with the VA in Erie,” he said. “They had a need in Ashtabula.”

While the free standing community-based outpatient clinic is new to Ashtabula, it is not new to the Veterans Administration and Professional Development Association who worked together to develop state-of-the-art model facilities to serve veterans in Pennsylvania.

“A similar facility was completed and put into operation last year in Vernon, Pa., that offers high quality in-person, and high-tech video-tel medical services to veterans who have served our country,” Ratermann said. “We welcome PDA to Ashtabula, and look forward to the success of the CBOC and other opportunities.”

Kennedy said a ground-breaking ceremony is expected to take place in early to mid-April.
