JEFFERSON — An 18-year-old A-Tech student was arrested in connection with having weapons on school property after school officials discovered a number of weapons in the trunk of his vehicle Thursday.

The school’s principal reportedly contacted the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department after he was made aware of several YouTube videos made by the student. The videos reportedly raised concern for the school’s safety. The videos reportedly were demonstrations of tactical firearms usage and home defense tactics, according to reports.

School officials reportedly approached the student, whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, while he was in the parking lot. Officials were reportedly granted permission to search his vehicle, according to reports.

A TASER and four gun powder pellets were located inside the vehicle and a Colt 6MM air pellet rifle, a 9MM Glock air pellet handgun and a tactical vest containing a tactical knife were located in the vehicle’s trunk, according to reports.

The student reportedly told officials he brought the weapons to school because he planned on shooting the pellet guns at a tactical course after school, according to reports.

He reportedly told deputies he forgot about the knife and gun powder pellets and keeps the TASER in his glove box for his protection, according to reports.

Deputies reportedly viewed one of the videos, which showed the student giving a demonstration on how to protect yourself from a home ambush. In the video, the student was reportedly wearing the same tactical vest found in his trunk and carrying the same pellet rifle and handgun, according to reports.

In the video, the student reportedly leads viewers to believe the weapons are real and that he always carries them in his vehicle, according to reports.

The student is scheduled to appear in Eastern County Court Monday.
