Rock Creek library wraps-up program

ROCK CREEK — The Rock Creek Public Library celebrated the end of its summer reading program last week with fun and prizes for all the participants.

The month-long program wrapped up July 23 and the celebration was held July 25.

Area students gathered at the library every Monday and Tuesday from June 24 through July 23 for crafts and reading with Children’s Librarian Candy Consider.

The students were required to read 45 or more books during the program to be eligible for a prize, Consider said.

Forty-five books in a month may seem like a lot, but Consider said, many of the students exceeded the 45 book requirement.

Consider said about 18 students participated in the program on Mondays and about 20 students participated in the program on Tuesdays.

To celebrate the success of the program, students were invited to the party. Consider said they played games and had snacks and received prizes to applaud their efforts.

“I tried to get prizes that were family-oriented,” she said.

Some of the prizes included tickets to Waldameer Park and Water World in Erie, Pa., tickets to an Erie SeaWolves baseball game, tickets to Deer Park, in Jamestown, Pa. and certificates for the Dairy Queen, she said.

The library also held a raffle for two one-week passes to the Ashtabula County Fair including two tickets to the Joe Nichols concert on Aug. 8. The raffle was a fundraiser for the library, she said.
