Two arrested after Orwell meth lab bust

JEFFERSON — Two Orwell residents were arrested Tuesday after Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department deputies discovered a methamphetamine lab in a Hague Road home.

Jami E. Ponn, 25, of 2394 Hague Road, has been charged with one count of illegal manufacture of drugs and one count of illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs. The charges were filed Wednesday in Western County Court. Ponn is set to be arraigned on the charges today, according to a court spokesperson.

A male suspect was also arrested in connection with the incident; however, no charges have been filed against him at this time.

Deputies responded to the Hague Road address at about 2 a.m. Tuesday to attempt warrant service on Ponn, who had an active warrant for her arrest through the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, according to reports.

Deputies had received information in the past about a significant amount of drug activity taking place at the residence, specifically, the manufacturing of methamphetamine, according to reports.

Deputies knocked on the front door of the residence and made contact with Ponn. She was immediately placed in hand restraints and arrested on the active warrant. The male suspect was also in the room at the time of Ponn’s arrest, according to reports.

Deputies observed, in plain sight, several items commonly used in the manufacture of meth. Deputies then asked Ponn for permission to search the residence, which she granted, according to reports.

Ponn reportedly told deputies all the items belonged to her ex-boyfriend, who up until recently resided with her at the residence. She reportedly told deputies he was in the process of moving out and until a few hours prior to the deputies’ arrival, he was there manufacturing meth, according to reports.

The other male suspect reportedly told deputies he was aware of what was taking place at the house, but did not take part, according to reports.

While searching the house, deputies located numerous items commonly used in the manufacture of meth. Items were located in the living room, kitchen and master bedroom as well as in a shed outside the residence, in the yard and throughout a garage on the property, according to reports.

Charges could also be filed against Ponn’s former boyfriend.
