Thousands flock to Bridge Street

Enthusiasts enjoy pane in the glass

ASHTABULA — The vibrant colors of Lake Erie beach glass sparkled in the late afternoon sun as the annual Beach Glass Festival wrapped up another successful year Sunday.

This year played host to the largest festival yet, said Troy Dalrymple, who organizes the event with his wife Lorie. The Dalrymples also own the Beaches store on Bridge Street. Close to 90 vendors lined Bridge Street this weekend showing off their hand-crafted wares made of beach glass.

Jake Hatmaker, who was helping his mother out at her Silk n Treasures booth said the turn-out was great this year.

“Except for the hour of rain, it’s been really good,” he said.

Sandy Gegan, who owns Sandy’s Beach Glass Jewelry, said this year’s event was a success. She said the rain didn’t even bother people.

“People still kept coming while it was raining,” she said.

Dalrymple said aside from the little bit of rain Sunday, the festival has been very fortunate for the past five years to escape bad weather. He estimated between 5,000 and 7,000 people attended this year’s festival, although it was hard to say for sure.

“People come in from all different areas so we really have no way of keeping track,” he said.

This year’s festival also saw a few expansions including a whole new area near Franklin Street.

Vendors from Florida, Virginia Beach, Ontario, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, New York and Ohio were featured at the event, he said.
