ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP —
Forget the candy bar and candle fundraisers, 10K runs and rigatoni dinners. On Friday, the Ashtabula County Council on Aging will sponsor a fundraiser that most of us can relate to: rocking.
The Third Annual Health Expo/Rock-a-thon is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ashtabula Towne Square. The highlight of the event is the Rocking for Seniors fundraiser, which is seeking both participants and sponsors for those who commit to rock in a chair for up to three hours.
Rocking chairs will be located in the center court of the mall and rockers of all ages are invited to participate. Lisa Bruckman, program manager at the Ashtabula Senior Center, said that those who would be more comfortable in a rocker from home are invited to bring it in, along with a soft cushion, if needed.
Money raised by the event supports activities at the Ashtabula Senior Center on Main Avenue. Rockers seek pledges for by the minute or as a flat fee for participating.
“Last year we even had a few seniors who had their rocking chairs sponsored by a business for a flat rate above and beyond their own sponsors,” Bruckman said.
Rockers can accept donations during the event, as well. For more information call the senior center at 998-6750.
