ASHTABULA — A 34-year-old Ashtabula resident is facing multiple charges for allegedly running a dog fighting ring.

City police executed a search warrant at 3418 Hiawatha Ave. early Friday afternoon after receiving a tip of dog fighting at that address Thursday, Ashtabula Police Lt. Joseph Cellitti said.

Rhamaud Hull rents the home, Cellitti said.

Hull was not home at the time of the raid, but police are looking for him, Cellitti said.

Ashtabula County Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Department of Justice’s  Drug Enforcement Agency aided city police in the raid in which they discovered five dogs in fenced-in pens in the backyard, Cellitti said.

“Three (dogs) had fresh wounds,” he said. “We found numerous other items having to do with dog fighting.”

Animal control officials took custody of the animals.

Hull is no stranger to law enforcement. In the past, he’s been convicted of several drug-related charges.
