Public hearing today on CDBG funding

Staff Writer

JEFFERSON — The second of two required public hearing on the Community Development Allocation Grant Program, the Neighborhood Revitalization Grant Program and Critical Infrastructure Grant Program will be today.

The hearing will bein the Commissioners Conference Room in the Old Courthouse Complex, 25 W. Jefferson St. at 1:30 p.m.

The county is able to fund four Community Development Block Grants per fiscal year. One of the grants the county funds each year is for the Ashtabula County Transportation System. The grant provides needed funds for the transportation system’s operation, said Janice Switzer, director of the Ashtabula County Community Services and Planning Department.

The other three communities receiving the CDBGs include Orwell Village, for improvements to its water facility, Geneva-on-the-Lake Village, for improvements to its sewer facility, and the city of Conneaut, for improvements to its flood and drainage facility, Switzer said.

ACTS will receive $38,800 in CDBG funds, Orwell Village will receive $59,600, GOTL will receive $59,600 and Conneaut will receive $57,000.

Each of those communities is also applying for competitive grants to help fund the projects.

The county is submitting additional applications for Orwell and GOTL for Neighborhood Revitalization Grants and Critical Infrastructure Grants for Conneaut.

Citizens are invited to attend today’s public hearing to express their views and comments on the county’s fiscal year 2013 CDBG funding, Switzer said.
