Buckeye school bus driver is cited in crash

NORTH KINGSVILLE —  A Buckeye Local Schools bus driver has been cited in conjunction with a two-vehicle traffic crash Thursday afternoon in North Kingsville, police said.

Jan Van Buren of Ashtabula was cited for failure to yield, said Patrolman Hugh Flanigan, who investigated the incident.

The bus collided with a sedan at the intersection of Gore and Poore roads around 3:20 p.m., police said. The driver of the sedan, Sheri Thompson of North Kingsville, was transported to UH Conneaut Medical Center with rib and wrist injuries, authorities said.

Police said the bus was on Gore, attempting a left-hand turn onto Poore, when it struck Thompson’s northbound vehicle. No students were on the bus, police said.

The bus had just finished transporting senior high school students and was returning to collect elementary school students, Nancy Williams, Buckeye Local superintendent, said Thursday.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
