Four companies interested in Conneaut’s concession stand project

CONNEAUT — Four companies submitted bids this month to erect a multi-purpose building at Conneaut High School’s football stadium, said Lindsey Cotton, treasurer for the Conneaut Area City Schools district.

The high bid of $244,000 came from Declan Construction in Brookfield, while the low bid was $179,794 from Schwartz Construction of Conneaut, she said. It’s believed the Conneaut Board of Education will consider the bids at its Monday night regular meeting.

As described by school officials, the building will be built inside the fence at the football field at Maple and Stadium avenues. The building will contain a concession stand, some storage and — most importantly — restrooms for fans. There have been no permanent rest rooms at the stadium since masonry bleachers built in the 1930s were demolished several years ago.

The lack of suitable restrooms has kept school administrators from holding commencement ceremonies at the newly improved stadium.

The building will be the latest step in the stadium’s recent rebirth. Over the past few years, aluminum bleachers and a press box have been installed. School and community leaders hope to make the stadium the centerpiece of a sports complex slated to include a track/field complex and tennis courts — all funded by donations.

Last year, city crews helped extend utilities to the building site. School officials hope to have the building up and operational before the Spartans’ home opener.
