Straw Hat Theatre Concerts on the Lawn features Alex Bevan

ASHTABULA — Nationally known songwriter and singer Alex Bevan will perform at the next Straw Hat Theatre “Concert on the Lawn” on Wednesday.  The show begins at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.

Bevan will be performing on the stage under the Straw Hat Theatre pavillion. Guests have the choice of sitting under the pavilion in Straw Hat Theatre’s chairs or guests may bring their own chairs or blankets to set out on the arts center’s patio or lawn. Straw Hat’s canvas sides will be removed to give those who choose to sit outside a view of Bevan playing on the stage.  Audiences are welcome to bring their own picnic supper or bottle of wine. The Straw Hat Theatre concession stand will also be open where visitors can purchase soft drinks and snacks, including hot dogs and freshly popped popcorn.

The Ashtabula Arts Center has collaborated with Nassief Honda, Ford, Toyota, and Hyundai in Ashtabula and Jefferson to bring the concert series to the summer stage.

“Nassief”s commitment to the community has been going strong for more than 50 years,” says Ashtabula Arts Center Executive Director Lori Robishaw. “We are thrilled that their sponsorship of this series has allowed us to bring Alex Bevan back to the arts center. We know from his past performances with us that he is a favorite with our patrons and we are pleased to have him performing for the first time in our outdoor venue.”

Bevan’s strong tradition of weaving stories into acoustic melodies has earned him the moniker of “Ohio’s Low Tech Troubador.”  “I Have No Wings” is the 21st release of Bevan’s original music.  Other popular collections include “Springboard,” “The Grand River Lullaby,” “and Fall & Angels.” Bevan can be found playing venues all around Northeast Ohio. Future “Concerts on the Lawn” will feature “Remember Then” performing Doo Wop and Rock ‘n’ Roll on Wednesday, July 23 and Irish tenor John Hoyle on Wednesday, August 6.

Straw Hat Theatre is located at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th Street in Ashtabula.
