HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP — A 62-year-old Euclid man has been indicted, on numerous charges, in the death of Eugene A. Cray, whose body was found May 11 along Route 307 in Harpersfield Township.

An Ashtabula County Grand Jury has indicted Gertis Perry on two counts of aggravated murder, one count of murder, one count of kidnapping and one count of tampering with evidence. The two aggravated murder charges as well as the murder charge also carry firearms specifications, according to court records.

Perry has been incarcerated in the Ashtabula County Jail, on a $1 million bond, since his arrest on May 21. He was arrested in the Cleveland area following an investigation into Cray’s death by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Cray, 43, of Cleveland, died of a gunshot wound to the head. His body was found face down in a ditch on Route 307, near Barnum Road, by a pedestrian.

Investigators say it appeared something may have happened on the road and Cray flipped over the guardrail. Blood was found on the roadway. Evidence at the scene was consistent with the crime occurring at the location the body was found.

Cray is believed to have been killed sometime between with night of May 10 and early May 11.

OHP troopers were able to piece together information during their investigation which led them to identify Perry as the suspect.
