Bridge Street Farmer’s Market opens Sunday

ASHTABULA —

It’s the “hot spot” on Bridge Street every Sunday, come summer and fall.
The Bridge Street Farmer’s Market returns for another season with everything from fresh vegetables and fruits to delicious baked goods and jams, jellies, honey and maple syrup.
The market, in its seventh year, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 12  in the parking lot between Purola Brothers Bridge Street Pizza and the Marine Bank Building.
After such a bitterly cold winter, the vendors are glad to be back in business, said market manager Rees Davis of Ashtabula.
“The Farmers’ Market is part of the national movement to reestablish local community- based food systems,” he said. “The market provides an opportunity to educate consumers in the Ashtabula County area about the benefits of buying fresh and local products. It also provides a high quality outlet for local farmers and businesses to sell their products directly to the public.”
This year, the Farmers Market will feature the addition of several new vendors. Ohio Heritage Farms from Saybrook will have fresh vegetables and fruit. Blue House Bakery from Geneva will tempt market-goers with delicious baked goods. Willow Tea Shop from Pierpont will offer quality, hand-blended teas.
Covered Bridge Gardens from Jefferson will continue to anchor the market with a full range of farm products. Sharpedge Mobile Sharpening will be on site with cutlery and sharpening tools.
Davis invites the community to visit the market to enjoy the variety of products, talk to the vendors and enjoy the atmosphere on historic Bridge Street. For more information, contact Davis at 992-8362.
