The Arts on Bridge Street expected to draw art enthusiasts to the Harbor

ASHTABULA — “The River of Many Fish” is the theme of Saturday’s parade, kicking off the Arts on Bridge Street festival, sponsored by the Ashtabula Lift Bridge Community (LBCA).

The parade begins at noon Saturday, featuring Lakeside High School and After School Discovery students with their hand-made costumes.

“The costumes are papier mache over a cardboard base,” said Meeghan Humphrey from the Ashtabula Arts Center. “With guidance, each student designed, constructed and painted their own costume.”

Almost all of the material was recycled and the students spend much time after school making the costumes, she said.

About 30 vendors will line Bridge Street to showcase their handmade wares, such as quilts, origami, paintings and more. All ages will enjoy the hands-on art activities, such as tile making and a photography contest.

Several art shows will be open throughout the weekend. Live art demonstrations from a variety of art mediums will take place both days.

Live music will be provided by many musical artists, and local authors will be on hand to sign their books.

Festival goers may also encounter a ballerina or two.

Bridge Street’s many shops and restaurants will be open during festival hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Free admission and parking.
