An Ashtabula man was arrested, Wednesday, and charged with assault on an employee at a local gas station.
Kevin L. Reed, 48, of 2329 North Ridge Rd. E. Room 122, was arraigned Thursday morning in Ashtabula Municipal Court on one count of criminal trespassing and one count of assault. Reed pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a $3,500 personal recognizance bond, according to a court spokesperson.
Reed, who is reportedly banned from the gas station due to previous theft issues, allegedly entered the convenience store at about 10:40 a.m. and immediately started taking coffee creamers from a display, according to Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department reports.
When the employee told him to leave, he allegedly refused and began calling her vulgar names. She reportedly told another employee to call ACSO and Reed
allegedly, without warning, spit in her face and “head-butted” her before leaving the store, according to reports.
A security video captured the incident, reports show.
Deputies located Reed at his residence and he was arrested without incident. The deputy wrote in his report that Reed was very verbal and stated the employees at the gas station always kick him out for no reason.
Reed told deputies his friend bought him a coffee and forgot cream so he decided to go to the gas station and get some, according to reports. He then accused the employee for coming after him and “head-butting” him, according to reports.
While being transported, Reed allegedly told the deputy “he wishes a foreign country would bomb all local law enforcement buildings and kill police officers,” according to the deputy’s report.
The report said Reed was very uncooperative and stated the employees “just started a war that he will finish.”
Reed is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in September, according to a court spokesperson.
