A new program at the Ashtabula County Fair, reflecting respect for servicemen and women who were wounded while fighting for America, is bound to be well attended this year.
County veterans who have been awarded a Purple Heart will be honored at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 and presented a patriotic quilt or afghan. The Purple Heart is the military decoration given to those wounded in battle.
About 50 veterans are scheduled to be honored, but fair board member Everett Helfer needs the address of each one.
“I have the names but not everyone’s address,” he said. “I need the addresses by next Friday (Aug. 2).”
Veterans or a family member are asked to call Helfer at 440-998-3950.
The afghans and quilts will be displayed in the craft/grange building during the fair.
