Police nab gunman wanted in several shootings

ASHTABULA — Authorities have arrested the 19-year-old Ashtabula man charged in connection with the Nov. 16 shooting on West 36th Street.

The Ashtabula Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and the FBI arrested fugitive Terrell Jones Thursday on West 30th Street in Ashtabula.

Jones, wanted in connection with several shootings, was the subject of an intensive search in four counties in Ohio and Buffalo, N.Y. , police said.

“We got tidbits of information that he was back in Ashtabula,” Ashtabula Police Lt. Joseph Cellitti said. “Surprisingly, when we found him, he didn’t fight.”

Six additional people from Ashtabula and Lake counties were arrested on outstanding warrants and may face charges for helping Jones.

“We spent a lot of time looking for this guy,” Ashtabula Police Lt. Will Parkomaki said. “If they weren’t helping him, they were hindering us.”

Ashtabula police issued a warrant for Jones on Nov. 16, charging him with felonious assault after an altercation on West 36th Street, where they believe he shot a man three times in the leg, according to police reports.

Capturing Jones was a No. 1 priority for the police; so much so that they requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals in apprehending him.

During their investigation, police found shell casings on West 36th Street between Lake and Station avenues, according to police reports.

The victim has recovered from the bullet wounds, police said.

The U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from Ashtabula, Geauga and Lake counties. Local agencies that contribute personnel to the force include Ashtabula Police Department, Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, Conneaut Police Department, North Kingsville Police Department and Adult Parole and Probation.
