Flash flood warning issued for Ashtabula County

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a flash flood warning for Ashtabula County until midnight Thursday.

At 3:56 p.m., National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated slow moving thunderstorms with heavy rainfall across the area. Up to three inches of rain in possible with the incoming storms this afternoon and evening. Radar indicates the heaviest rain mainly affecting areas south of Interstate 90. Torrential rainfall rates in excess of three inches will easily overwhelm urban areas and drainage systems. Already saturated soil will lead to excessive runoff. Swollen rivers and creeks could quickly rise out of their banks.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
