JEFFERSON — A Monroe Township man has been charged with rape and kidnapping after he allegedly held a Conneaut woman against her will and raped her Friday, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department.

David A. Goodiel, Jr., 41, 5754 Scribner Road was charged Monday, in Eastern County Court, with one count of rape, a first-degree felony and one count of kidnapping, a first-degree felony, according to court records.

Goodiel was arraigned Monday afternoon in Judge Robert Wynn’s courtroom. Bond was set at $30,000 cash or 10 percent surety.

The victim, a 39-year-old Conneaut woman, reportedly was able to make a brief phone call to her sister alerting her to the incident while Goodiel left the room momentarily. Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department dispatch received a third-party call regarding the incident at 4:18 a.m. The caller did not know the victim’s location, but told the dispatcher Goodiel was beating her, according to reports.

Dispatch made several attempts to reach the victim on her cell phone but was unsuccessful. The woman’s cell phone provider was also contacted to assist in obtaining a location, but the cell phone had not been used since July 2 so a location could not be accessed, according to reports.

Deputies were able to obtain a possible address for Goodiel and once they arrived at the Scribner Road address, Goodiel reportedly exited the residence and retreated back inside when he saw the deputies, according to reports.

Shortly after, the victim, who was reportedly half-dressed, came running from the rear of the house with Goodiel following her. The victim had noticeable abrasions on her face and upper chest area, according to reports.

The victim was reportedly very emotional, crying and complaining of pain in her lower abdominal area as well as her genitals, according to reports. There were noticeable marks on her right breast and chest area and what appeared to be bite marks on her face and back, according to reports.

She told deputies she arrived a Goodiel’s for a cook-out and he took her car keys. Throughout the day his anger level increased and went from verbal abuse to physical abuse, according to reports.

He allegedly restrained her, tore off her tank top and pushed her head into the couch saying “the death of you is coming,” according to reports.

The victim told deputies she was unable to breathe. He then allegedly accused her of wanting other men and becoming more violent, allegedly proceeded to perform sexual acts. She stated she was crying hysterically and begged Goodiel for her car keys, according to reports.

Goodiel reportedly taunted the victim with her cell phone before throwing it outside into water. He also reportedly threw away other items belonging to her, according to reports.

He then allegedly restrained her again, all the while saying “the death of you is coming,” according to reports.

The victim refused medical treatment and advised deputies she would transport herself to the hospital. Goodiel denied the allegations, according to reports.

There is also a pending criminal case against Goodiel for menacing and stalking involving the victim, according to reports.

Goodiel’s brother was reportedly in a tent in the yard while the alleged acts were taking place. He told deputies he could hear them arguing and screaming, but had no idea what was going on. He said he never went in the house, according to reports.

Goodiel was arrested and transported to Ashtabula County Jail where he remained Monday.
