Bands on the Beach welcomes tunes from 1930s and 40s Sunday

ASHTABULA — The Prime Time Big Band will perform music from the 1930s and 40s at Big Bands on the Beach Summer Concert series  Sunday.

The free concert begins at 4 p.m. at Walnut Beach. The summer concert series is hosted by the City of Ashtabula, and sponsored by Ashtabula County Medical Center. Ashtabula resident Timothy Kalil has  organized the event since its inception in 2006.

“Prime Time performs tunes from the Big Band era and plays danceable rhythms in all ballroom styles,” Kalil said. “The band also features a singer.”

Before intermission, there will be “Audience Invitation to Dance” to the Glenn Miller tune, “In the Mood.”

“All have a great time at these concerts and the Walnut Beach and Lake Erie scenery is fantastic,” Kalil said. “Join the fun, sing along and dance.”

Intermission is at 4:45 p.m. with a short presentation by ACMC’s Craig Frisina of the Would Health Center.  He also will have an information table at the concert.

The concert ends at 6 p.m.

Big Bands on the Beach takes place at the concession stand and the restrooms will be open to the public.

The concert is a rain or shine event. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, and something for shade, if needed. Big Bands on the Beach draw a crowd of about 500 people, so go early to get a good seat.

Tony Esposito Big Band will play Aug. 17, the last concert of the summer.
