JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP —
Three men escaped serious injury following a three-vehicle crash at the Perry Road intersection on Route 46 just after 2 p.m., said Sgt. Ron Bornino of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A car driven by Jeffery Cruikshank, 43, of Ashtabula, was southbound on Route 46 when he took a quick look at his cell phone and ran into the back of a car driven by Francis T. Talcott, 92, of Jefferson, who was stopped in traffic, Bornino said.
“There was a vehicle in front of him (Talcott) stopped waiting to turn on to Perry Road,” Bornino said.
Talcott’s vehicle was pushed left of center into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Gregory Leonhard, 49, of Jefferson, Bornino said. He said Leonhard’s vehicle struck Talcott’s vehicle and continued left of center into a guardrail on the west side of the road.
“All three had minor injuries,” Bornino said. He said nobody was transported to the hospital and traffic was blocked for about an hour. Jefferson fire and ambulance vehicles responded to the scene.
Bornino said Cruikshank was cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance.
