Genevan caught with lots of pot

MADISON TOWNSHIP —  A Geneva man was arrested on drug charges Friday after a traffic stop by the Ohio Highway Patrol, said  Lt. Michael Combs of the Chardon Post of the OHP.

“An Ohio man is facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 15 pounds of marijuana worth nearly $35.000,” Combs said.

Troopers stopped  a vehicle driven by Brian L. Walters, 41, for a marked lane violation at 11:08 a.m., Combs said.

A drug sniffing canine, from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department, smelled drugs in the vehicle, Combs and an Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department report stated.

“A probable cause search revealed a garbage bag containing 15 Ziplock bags of marijuana in the vehicle’s trunk,” Combs said.

Walters was taken into custody and incarcerated in the Lake County Jail. He was charged with possession of marijuana and trafficking in marijuana, Combs said.

The two third-degree felonies could lead to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine if Walters is convicted, Comb said.
