ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP —
Concerts at Peleg Sweet Park started Tuesday with a bench dedication ceremony in memory of PFC Michael J. Metcalf, who died April 22, 2012, in Afghanistan, while serving in the U.S. Army. He was 22.
The Rev. Shane Nanny opened with prayer, followed by a presentation of the Color Guard. Monte Foltz gave a patriotic tribute. The Rev. Bob Leonard provided a poem and prayer. Hector Martinez played taps.
The weekly concert series then began, featuring the Philips Brothers Band.
Metcalf resided in Florida, but spent a lot of time in Ashtabula visiting family. Leonard was instrumental in helping Metcalf’s family with the bench dedication.
The Metcalf family thanks Terri Guerriero of Guerriero Funeral Home, the Ashtabula Township trustees, Ryan Whitmire, Carl Caylor of Silver Creek Construction, Pat Barret, Steve Spencer, Steve and Sally Lovich of Cashen Concrete in Madison and Ashtabula residents who have supported them and showed them kindness in the past year.
