Judge Hague’s wife not in court

Bond set at $100,000 for Carla Hague

ASHTABULA — Carla Hague, who is accused of poisoning her husband, Ashtabula County Common Pleas Juvenile and Probate Judge Charles Hague, waived her right to appear in court for a bond hearing Thursday afternoon in Ashtabula Municipal Court.

Her attorney, William Bobulsky, appeared on her behalf. Hague is charged with one count of felonious assault. Authorities said she will also face an attempted murder charge.

Bond was set at $100,000 cash or 10 percent surety with a number of stipulations she will have to meet upon her release.

If Hague posts bond, she will not be permitted to have any contact with Judge Hague; cannot leave the state and must keep the court apprised of her address; she will be under GPS monitoring; she is not permitted at the couple’s home in Saybrook Township; she will be required to undergo a mental health assessment; she will have to submit to random alcohol and drug testing; cannot possess firearms or other weapons; and is not permitted to consume alcohol or drugs unless prescribed by a physician.

Special Prosecutor Linda Majeska Powers of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office appeared on the state’s behalf and Judge Terri Stupica, of Chardon Municipal Court, presided over the hearing.

Hague waived her right to an arraignment earlier this week and the case will be presented to an Ashtabula County Grand Jury Dec. 18.

Hague, 71, was arrested Monday for allegedly poisoning the judge with antifreeze back in September.

Judge Hague was taken to Ashtabula County Medical Center and then flown to the Cleveland Clinic after he became ill Sept. 15. He was found to have a high level of Ethylene Glycol, or antifreeze, in his system. Family members contacted the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department a few days later.

The Hague’s have been married 45 years and have three children.
