GOTL to host monster carnival starting this evening

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE — Geneva Township Park will benefit from a monster of a carnival this weekend, complete with bands, rides and food.

The Bessie-on-the-Lake Monster Festival will be this evening through Monday as a kick off to the official summer season on the lake, Premium Events coordinator Stephen Lisko said.

“Bessie-on-the-Lake is a fun-filled, family-oriented event and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the township park,” he said. “I was looking for new areas to hold new events, so I was scoping out Geneva-on-the-Lake and I saw the park and it looked just right for a festival. We kicked around some ideas and Bessie-on-the-Lake was born.”

Lisko said the festival will include 13 to 15 carnival rides an arts and crafts show, and plenty of festival food.

“We will have funnel cakes, cotton candy, fair fries and gyros,” he said. “We are going to have a pretty good spread of food there.”

The event will feature a weekend full of live entertainment, including performances by The Zou tonight at 9 p.m., and Junction Pa from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and The Infidels from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. Andy Powder and The Drips will take the stage on Sunday at 5:30 p.m., followed by The Earthquakers at 8 p.m. The music continues Monday at 6 p.m. with the band Redline.

Fish toss competitions will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Lisko said he is hoping for a good crowd on one of Geneva-on-the-Lake’s busiest weekends of the year.

“We are hoping for a lot of people,” he said. “It is hard to anticipate crowds, but I can tell you that I tried to find a room for the weekend in Geneva-on-the-Lake, and every single place is booked solid. That has to be a good sign.”

Admission to the festival is free, though wristbands for unlimited rides costs $15 per person. The park will open at 6 p.m. on Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
