Safety Day Sunday

ASHTABULA — First responders and military recruiters are teaming up with Goodwill Industries of Ashtabula to hold the first ever, Community Safety Day.

The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday on Bridge Street, highlighting the heroes in our community and to help raise donations for school supplies to send local students back to school.

First responders such as the Coast Guard, police, firefighters and military recruiters will park their safety vehicles on the street and have booths set up on Bridge Street to provide information to the public. Each participating agency will have their own collection bin encouraging people to donate school supplies to the Goodwill Back-To-School Give-away.

“We have been elated by the response and generosity of our community so far in our Back-To-School School Supply Drive,” said Blake Johnston, marketing and development manager at Goodwill. “Teaming up with local first responders and military branches in the area for a Community Safety Day seemed like a great way to increase safety awareness and to help thank those who serve in our community in person.”

Johnston said Goodwill is thankful for the support of the Bridge Street vendors. They hope to give school supplies to 500 local students.
