N. Kingsville police lose two officers

NORTH KINGSVILLE — Village officials this week accepted the resignations of two North Kingsville police officers, according to Mayor Terry McConnell.

Patrolman Paul Block is leaving the department as a full-time officer to accept a new job, but will remain an auxiliary officer in the village, McConnell said. Part-time officer Tony Tirado resigned to devote more time to another job, he said.

Block has been with the department for two years, while Tirado is leaving after one year, Police Chief Hugh Flanigan said Thursday. Tirado also worked for the department on a previous occasion, he said.

The loss of the officers will cause some scheduling problems, Flanigan said. “It’s going to consume some of our overtime for the year,” he said.

McConnell said he hopes to fill the full-time slot within the next two weeks. Flanigan said some of the department’s auxiliary officers may apply for the position.

“We’ve got some pretty good people who are interested,” Flanigan said.

Elsewhere, village police are investigating a working methamphetamine lab found inside a duffle bag placed in a trash can outside a house in the 2000 block of East Center Street, Flanigan said. A resident made the discovery and contacted police Monday morning, he said.

“There was something in the can she thought was suspicious,” Flanigan said. “The meth lab was still generating gas.”

A North Kingsville officer trained in disposal methods was able to dismantle the lab, he said.
