97 charged in sweep for weapons, drugs in Warren

WARREN — Ninety-seven people are facing federal or state charges in a sweep announced Wednesday against drug trafficking and illegal weapons in northeast Ohio.

The charges announced by U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach targeted individuals involved in the Warren area in alleged heroin and cocaine dealing and possessing and selling firearms illegally.

The allegations include 55 people charged in 19 separate federal indictments and 42 others facing similar state charges.

The alleged drug trafficking pipelines were Detroit to Warren and Columbus to Warren and Dayton.

A total of 155 firearms were seized.

“These cases have taken an arsenal off the streets of Warren and cut off several pipelines of heroin, cocaine and other illegal drugs,” Dettelbach said in a statement.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said the suspects brought crime to neighborhoods in the Youngstown-Warren area. “We will continue to work with state, local, and federal law enforcement to do everything we can to keep our communities safe,” he said in a statement.

Most of the alleged crimes occurred last year, authorities said.

Most of the suspects are from Warren. Others are from communities including Columbus, Dayton, Youngstown, Girard, Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Cortland, Ravenna and Bristolville, nearby Hermitage, Pa. and Detroit.
