Police raid drug house

ASHTABULA —  Six people are facing drug-related charges after police raided a Madison Avenue house early Sunday, police said.

Ashtabula police and the Ashtabula Regional SWAT Team executed a search warrant at 5734 Madison Ave., at about 1 a.m. Sunday, said Lt. William Parkomaki.

When police entered the house, they found eight people inside. Six were arrested and transported to the Ashtabula City Jail.

Police seized crack cocaine, about $1,000 in cash, prescription pills, a police scanner and drug paraphernalia, he said.

Parkomaki said the warrant was the result of a long drug investigation stemming from resident complaints, and a number of “controlled buys” from undercover officers. He credited the raid to the department’s new Broken Windows program that urges concerned citizens to report criminal activity in their communities.

The Madison Avenue property owner is Gary Buell of Plymouth Township, according to the county auditor’s website.

Parkomaki said Buell will be formally notified of the arrests.

The Ashtabula Regional SWAT Team consists of law enforcement personnel from Ashtabula, Geneva and Conneaut.
