Royalty crowned at Geneva Pageant

GENEVA — Elyse Pitkin was all smiles as the 2014 Senior Miss Winterfest crown was placed on her head Saturday evening at the Geneva Community Center.

Outgoing queen Cheyenne Fishbach did the honors at the conclusion of almost three hours of competition in five divisions of the Geneva Winterfest Pageant.

“We had 50 contestants in five divisions,” said pageant director Beth Cheney. She said 24 girls participated in the Miss Photogenic competition and 24 girls competed in the winter/holiday wear contest. She said both of those contests were optional.

The five divisions were Tiny Miss Winterfest, Little Miss Winterfest, Young Miss Winterfest, Junior Miss Winterfest and Senior Miss Winterfest.

Cheyney said the girls would have a photo shoot today and be ready for the Winterfest breakfast and parade on the weekend.

She said the Winterfest royalty will also represent Geneva at festivals and other events outside Ashtabula County.

“I feel wonderful. I’m so excited. I’m very thankful,” Pitkin said after posing with first attendant Bond Brewster, 16, of Chardon, and second attendant Katelynn Salyans, 15, of Geneva.

The candidates were judged on a variety of categories including poise, smiling and a lengthy interview on Friday, said judge Kathy Pape.

Two year old Lilyann Akos of Madison participated in the Tiny Miss Winterfest competition. “She has tons of energy and I thought it would be a positive way to release that energy and she did well,” said her proud mother Sam Akos.
