Carlisle's Home in the Harbor store celebrates 10 years

ASHTABULA — ASHTABULA — Carlisle’s Home in the Harbor is celebrating its 10th anniversary since opening on Bridge Street in Historic Ashtabula Harbor in October 2002.

“We can’t believe 10 years have flown by,” co-owner Toni Carlisle said. “The store has been a true joy for us. We have made thousands of new friends and acquaintances, not just locally but from all over the country.”

Carlisle also has enjoyed with the excitement of watching lower Bridge Street come to life.

“When we first opened in 2002, there were a lot of vacancies on Bridge Street,” she said. “Now the street is filled with good places to eat, drink and shop; places to gather and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Historic Harbor.”

The formation of the Lift Bridge Community Association in 2008 and the Beach Glass and Wine and Walleye festivals have helped make Ashtabula Harbor a destination place for locals and tourists.

Toni’s husband, Ren Carlisle, said the Home in the Harbor store is the latest version of a family retail tradition in Ashtabula that goes back 155 years to 1857.

“Lots of people remember the Carlisle-Allen store on Main Street and other Carlisle stores in the region but my great grandfather and his son, H.T. and L.T. Carlisle, had a store here on Bridge Street in the late 1800’s,” he said. “Given our long tradition, we have designed a 10th Anniversary commemorative mug that we will be giving away with any $20 purchase for three days — Thursday through Saturday.”

The mug depicts all of the Carlisle logos, from 1857 to present day.

“We hope that anyone who has fond memories of the old Carlisle’s will enjoy having this remembrance,” Toni Carlisle said. “We truly appreciate the wonderful support we’ve received from our customers and we look forward to many more years in this special  place.”

In addition to Toni and Ren Carlisle, the Carlisle Home in the Harbor staff includes Norma Tenney, Cassie Korland, Marta Stone, Karen Borkes and Gilly, the Carlisle’s Jack Russell.    For more information, visit Carlisle’s Home in the Harbor, 1005 Bridge Street, or call (440) 964-8000.
