Ashtabula County YMCA welcomes a new CEO

ASHTABULA — There’s a new face at the Ashtabula County YMCA.

Trevor Sprague, former membership and marketing director for the YMCA of western Stark County and branch executive for the Massillon Family YMCA, started Monday as the new CEO.

In his new role, Sprague will lead the Ashtabula County YMCA serving all of Ashtabula County.

“I am thrilled to join the Ashtabula County YMCA, and organization that helps thousands of residents in the Ashtabula area each year learn, grow, and thrive,” Sprague said. “I’ve lived in northeast Ohio for nearly my entire life and I look forward to helping continue the Y’s work of making a positive impact in the community.”

Lorraine M. Seards, president of the Ashtabula County YMCA Board of Directors, said the Y is the leading voice on issues important to the cause of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

“We have made  significant strides in our advocacy efforts, and we expect that Trevor (Sprague) will continue to enhance the Y’s standing throughout the county,” she said. “He is a wonderful addition to the Y.”

Sprague already made his move to the City of Ashtabula, bringing his dog with him.

“The move has been great,” he said.

His family lives in Canton, so he’s not too far away, he said.

A published author, Sprague graduated from the honors college at Kent State University in 2011 with his bachelor’s degree in education and a minor in sociology.

Before his job with YMCA of Stark County, Sprague served the organization as teen program director, building supervisor, and worked as a lifeguard, swim instructor, day camp counselor, before and after school counselor, and preschool sports coach.

Prior to the YMCA, he spent eight years at Sevens Ranges Scout Reservation, serving as program director from 1999 to 2001 and worked as a youth leader at the Multi-County Juvenile Attention Center in Stark County.
