Jefferson Road, Route 45 latest to join off-limit list

Traveling around Ashtabula County will become more challenging when road-closed signs sprout on two more busy highways in the coming days.

Starting Tuesday, Route 45 between Fillingham and Allen roads in Rome Township will be off-limits for a culvert replacement project, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 4. That stretch will be shut down into early July. The official detour is Route 322 to Route 46 to Route 6, according to an ODOT statement released Friday.

The work is part of a county-wide, $2 million culvert program that will wrap up by October.

Starting June 23, the Jefferson Road bridge over Interstate 90 in Plymouth Township will be closed through September, ODOT announced. The detour will be State Road to Seven Hills Road. The bridge is being replaced, part of the massive $68 million overhaul of I-90 under way in the vicinity of Route 11.

The Chapel Road bridge over the freeway remains closed through June for the same reason. Two ramps at the I-90/Route 11 interchanged are closed through mid-October and other road restrictions are already in place. The entire project won’t be finished until November 2016, according to ODOT.

Even two-wheeled vehicles can’t escape restrictions. The Western Reserve Greenway Trail under I-90 will have daily closures because of construction, and detours will be posted.

Here’s a list of other closed roads in the Ashtabula County and their status:

• Route 7 between Hall Road and Route 6 in Richmond Township will be closed until Tuesday for emergency culvert replacement work. The detour is Route 6 to Route 193 to Route 167.

• Route 46 between Sirrine and Thompkins roads in New Lyme Township for culvert replacement. The official detour is Route 6 to Route 11 to Route 307. The road is scheduled to reopen in mid-June.

• Route 531 between Myers and Ninevah roads in Geneva and Saybrook townships will be closed through October for a $6.4 million widening/repair/ slope erosion stabilization program.
