Morgan Hose Ox Roast set for next weekend

ROCK CREEK — A long-standing tradition for more than 30 years, the Morgan Hose Company Volunteer Fire Department Ox Roast will return next weekend with a full line-up of events.

This year’s festival, held June 13, 14 and 15, truly has something for everyone. The event will kick-off Friday at 6 p.m. and conclude Sunday following the Duck Derby at 6 p.m.

A Flag Day themed beauty pageant will get things under way Friday. The pageant is open to girls ages 3 to 12 and boys ages 3 to 6.

At 7:30 p.m. performers of all varieties will take the stage for the annual Rock Creek’s Got Talent show. Three winners will be awarded cash prizes, said Asst. Chief Shaun Buehner.

DJ Palo will fill the streets with today’s hits as festival goers take to the streets for a dance party and karaoke.

Saturday’s events will kick-off with the announcement of the Rock Creek Citizen of the Year followed by the performance of the National Anthem. The parade will step-off at 1 p.m. (Line-up begins at 11 a.m.).

The famous roast beef dinners will be served both Saturday and Sunday. Dinners will be served from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Roast Beef sandwiches will also be served all weekend.

Saturday’s events include the E & J Reptile Show, a karate demonstration by Iron Dragon, a tractor pull hosted by the Rock Creek Veterans of Foreign Wars and an adult tricycle race.

Country band Rough Cut will finish off the day’s events. The band will take the stage at 8 p.m.

The Rock Creek Church of Christ will host a fellowship service at 10:30 a.m. to get Sunday’s activities underway.

The Hobo’s Polka Band will take the stage at 1 p.m.

Sunday’s big draw is the corn hole tournaments, Buehner said.

Sign-ups begin at 12:15 p.m. Cost is $30 per two-person team for the double-elimination tournament. Cash prizes include $300 for first place; $200 for second place; $100 for third place; $75 for fourth place; $50 for fifth place; and, $25 for sixth place.

There will also be an all female tournament. Cost is $10 per two-woman team. Cash prizes include $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Participants in the main tournament are not eligible to compete in the all female tournament.

Magician Rick Smith will return this year to wow children of all ages. Smith, a magician and illusionist, has been seen on the Ellen show, Shark Tank, Time Warp, America’s Got Talent, and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Buehner said.

Kids tractor races will be held at 3 p.m. in front of the fire hall.

A large silent auction will run all weekend with winners being announced at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The annual Rotary Club Duck Derby will close out the festivities this year at 6 p.m. at Rock Creek Park.

The fire department will also raffle off a 2014 Polaris 570 four-wheeler. Only 500 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $20 each.
